Government Relations Director Mindy Larsen Poldberg says they’re not giving up on getting a biofuels bill passed. She says there’s been positive movement on tax relief, both for property and inheritance taxes. Poldberg says there’s a great chance they can get the inheritance tax eliminated. Poldberg says they haven’t had to deal any measures pushing stringent regulations that would hamper farmers and ranchers this session. Poldberg says state lawmakers still have quite a ways to go before session wraps up including ironing out the budget. ....
IOWA CAPITAL DISPATCH Fuel retailers and trucking groups criticized the latest version of a proposal to set state biofuel standards, clashing during a Thursday morning meeting with agriculture groups that support the bill. “This bill, as written, is detrimental to the retail industry and consumers at large,” said Jason McDermott, owner of several Iowa convenience stores and the McDermott Oil Company. Lawmakers plan to amend Senate File 549 to match a proposal in the House by Rep. Lee Hein, R-Monticello. The bill will require Iowa fuel retailers to sell E-15, gasoline with a 15% ethanol blend, by 2026. Farming groups supported the proposal. Iowa is the nation’s top provider of both corn and ethanol, but much of Iowa’s ethanol is sold out of state. Mindy Larsen-Poldberg, director of government relations for the Iowa Corn Growers Association, said the group “enthusiastically and wholeheartedly” supported the bill. ....

Mindy Larsen Poldberg, government relations director of the Iowa Corn Growers Association, says the biofuels bill promises a big boost for ethanol and biodiesel producers and retailers. “It will reduce the amount of E-0 sales that will be sold in the state of Iowa, replacing that with E-10,” Poldberg says. “It will increase the amount substantially for money that’s put into infrastructure for E-15 to E-85 and also biodiesel.” ....
Many Iowans Hope to See the Biofuels Bill Pass in 2021 The Iowa Corn Growers Association, one of Iowa’s largest commodity groups in the state, are very optimistic about a bill placed before the state legislature. They feel it will pass and be sent on to the governor after getting over a recent funnel deadline. Radio Iowa reports the bill promises a nice boost for ethanol and biodiesel producers and retailers in Iowa. If the bill succeeds in passing, it will reduce the amount of E-0 gasoline sales that will be sold in the state. These pumps would be replaced with E-10. It would also increase the amount of cash put into infrastructure for E-15 to E-85 and also biodiesel.
