'Dontre Day': Community gathers to celebrate life of Dontre Hamilton

It has been seven years since Milwaukee Police Officer Christopher Manney shot and killed Dontre Hamilton in Red Arrow Park. Family, friends, local leaders and supporters gathered on Friday at the scene of the shooting to celebrate what the family has coined Dontre Day.
Hamilton was killed April 30, 2014, after a Starbucks employee called the police on him for sleeping in Red Arrow Park. Hamilton, who suffered from schizophrenia, was shot 14 times by Manney, who was fired for his actions leading up to the shooting, but not for his use of force.
Hamilton s family members said they were grateful to the many local activists who have been marching and protesting throughout the last year. ....
