Sale of Senior Center It was good to see the Fairmont City Council move forward with the sale of the former Senior Center Building. The new Senior Place located in the SMEC building is set to open soon and the old location is ready to be used for a brand new brewery. This is a great way for existing buildings to be put to use while growing our community at the same time. PUC The Public Utilities Commission recently discussed getting back to disconnections on delinquent accounts. While disconnections haven’t happened for a few years before the pandemic, there is no reason to continue this practice. Those with delinquent accounts will be notified and have time to respond, but they shouldn’t expect to be carried indefinitely. ....
Sentinel Correspondent FAIRMONT Marshall Crissinger, a senior at Fairmont High School, has received $12,000 in tool and tuition assistance from Miller Sellner Fairmont. Crissinger, son of Ken and Wanetta Crissinger, plans to attend Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg this fall for Farm Equipment and Diesel Technology. Crissinger said he’s had an interest in the field since he was about in 7th grade. “It started when I started helping a family friend with their farm. We started doing general maintenance on the equipment and it was something that clicked for me,” Crissinger said. Crissinger already had an interest in one day working at Miller Sellner, which he shared with his teacher, Bob Bonin, who told him they had funds available, so he started on the application process. ....
The Sleepy Eye Herald Dispatch The 74th Annual Miss Sleepy Eye Coronation will take place on Sunday, March 14. The Miss Sleepy Eye Ambassador Organization said due to COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings, a limited number of tickets were pre-sold, and there will be no general admission at the door. Masks/face coverings are require for those who attend. The crowning of the new Miss Sleepy Eye Royalty will be posted on the Miss Sleepy Eye Facebook page. Nashville, Waverly and Westford will open at 4 p.m. St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Truman will hold a 7 p.m. Lenten service on Wednesday. To help young people get started as a service technician, Miller Sellner offers a tuition assistance award every year at each of their four locations. This award is in the amount of $3,000 per semester. Additionally, they provide a paid on-the-job learning experience and internship. In return, the recipient is committed to work full-time for Miller Sellner for 5000 hours after program graduation. Application deadline will be March 15.
