GEORGE NEWS - The Nelson Mandela University George Campus will be hosting an online welcome event this evening, Friday 5 March, for all its first-year students. 
Both the George and Gqeherha (Port Elizabeth) campuses have a series of virtual welcomes for new students and their families this week, ending tomorrow, Saturday 6 March.
George Campus spokesperson Milisa Piko says the switch from the traditional on-campus event to online sessions for as many as 6 000 first-year students on both its campuses is in keeping with the Covid-19 ....

Newly graduated Dr Tatenda Mapeto ascribes her success to all the people who always believed in her.
GEORGE NEWS - Tatenda Mapeto s lifelong dream to change her world through education began under an avocado tree two decades ago. 
Today the Zimbabwean-born Mapeto (33), a forest management lecturer at the Nelson Mandela University George Campus, can write the title doctor before her name.
She was one of two students who received their doctorate degrees at the university s summer graduation, which took place virtually on 17 and 18 December. Mapeto s PhD in nature conservation, in the field of forest hydrology, offers critical research into eco-hydrological patterns in tree production systems - vital for negotiating South Africa s ongoing water scarcity. ....

NMU George Campus closed for all recreational purposes

As per university protocols, the campus will not be accessible to people without the necessary permits.
GEORGE NEWS - The Nelson Mandela University George Campus will remain closed for all recreational activities until disaster management authorities deem it safe to reopen them.
In a press release today, Monday 21 December, campus management reiterated its commitment to ensuring the health and safety of the staff and students who are living on campus. 
The university pleaded with the extended George community to honour this commitment and not use the George campus for recreational or any other purposes.
“No activities will be allowed until such time as the local and national disaster management authorities deem it necessary in line with the Covid-19 safety measures,” said Milisa Piko, spokesperson of the George campus. “As such, cycling, biking, hiking and walking is prohibited.”  ....
