As we come on the air, the monster category 4 storm is on a collision course with the texas and louisiana coastlines, and its growing stronger by the minute. Tonight, laura is on her way to becoming a catastrophic category 5 hurricane when she barrels into land just a few hours from now. Nearly 15 years to the day of hurricane katrina. The unprecedented storm is now expected to leave parts of the region under the gulf of mexico for days, unleashing a twostorytall storm surge on the coast that forecasters say will be unsurvivable. Frances, the rain has picked up in the last 20 minutes or so were beginning to see that downpour begin and one os going to be the red river that you see behind me. In the past in 2015 this river actually flooded causing an interstate highway to shut down and also some flood damage to a number of homes and so as we wait for this storm to come in and this continued rain were going to be looking to see if that flooding becomes an issue and the other thing here is obviously the wind right now the wind is fairly calm even as the rain begins to come down. The fact it could pick up throughout the day in the next few hours. Forecasters are projecting up to 60 Miles Per Hour winds and that would be a major problem for power lines and the potential for downed power lines and for people to lose power, something that were already seeing in the southern part of the state as the hurricane moves through there.
