Friday was supposed to be decision day at Clearview Regional High School.
Would it start selling tickets for an outdoor prom? Or would officials inform students they could not plan a large outdoor event because it would fail to meet Gov. Phil Murphy’s gathering limits?
But new guidance on proms and graduation ceremoniesreleased by the state this week eliminated the problem. With a senior class of about 380 students, Clearview can forge ahead with an event that falls within the 500-person limit for outdoor gatherings. ....

And that’s only if the event, tentatively scheduled for May 22, takes place at all.
The current outdoor gathering limit of 200 people isn’t high enough to accommodate the large class of 380 students, said Mike Vicente, director of student activities and athletics. By the end of April, the administrators will review state guidelines and decide whether to forge ahead selling tickets and making seating arrangements, he said. ....
