Under an indigo dawn sky, Kelly Smith from the New Zealand Navy gave a chilling reminder of the human sacrifice of war at Katikati s Anzac Day Dawn Service in front of a 300-strong crowd at Memorial Square on Sunday.
The Lieutenant Commander said April 25 saw the first significant engagement of New Zealand troops in the First World War when they landed at Gallipoli.
By the end of that fateful day, more than 600 New Zealanders had been killed or wounded - more than in the three years of the South African Boer War.
“Unless the men disclose what’s at the root we are dealing with symptoms and the effects of, rather than the root cause.” Subritzky said many have anger issues, relationship problems, and addictions but a lot of issues stem from sexual abuse.

Subritzky wants to encourage men to talk more and come forward with their stories to help them heal. He works from a Merrilands property which he specifically set up to offer counselling and group work for the men. Over the last few months he has transformed it into a safe haven where the men can feel comfortable to visit.
