May 26—ALBANY — Mike Sistrunk, who stepped down from his position as co-county manager of Lee County amid a sea of controversy, has been hired to serve as Dougherty County's assistant Public Works director. Sistrunk will move into the assistant director's position when current Assistant Director Chucky Mathis moves into the position that will be vacated by long-time Public Works Director Larry .

Recently, all roads in the Palmyra subdivision were resurfaced, but the project is starting to wrap up.

Mathis said people living in the area shouldn’t expect any kind of rerouting or delays.
“Road paving is always in big demand in Lee County. We have about 200 miles of dirt roads and about 200 miles of paved roads and we have to repave, so there are always plenty of road projects ahead,” said Mathis.

LEESBURG, Ga. (WALB) - One of Lee County’s top officials is resigning.
Co-County Manager Mike Sistrunk is resigning after giving the county a 90-day notice.
He will resign on May 21, 2021.
“For 18 years, I have dedicated my life to the Lee County citizens and all of our employees,” Sistrunk said. “My heart and passion has always been to serve our community to the best of my ability, using my best judgment and integrity to protect those that I manage.”
