NEW HANOVER COUNTY The state’s top health official acknowledged that mega vaccine events were partially to blame for as many as 18 counties receiving no vaccines last week, in a Jan. 26 letter to vaccine providers.
New Hanover County was told to expect at least 300 units weekly for first doses for the immediate future, though public health has the capacity to administer thousands of doses weekly, according to a spokesperson.

The New Hanover Regional Medical Center has utilized a shut-down movie theater in Wilmington to distribute COVID-19 vaccines.
The Pointe 14 General Manager Steve Sherwood said his friend, the hospital s Vice President of Facility Services Tom Walsh, reached out to him to get the process started. We knew if we wanted to vaccinate larger amounts of people we needed a bigger space to have the biggest impact, said Mike Melroy, the hospital s pharmacy director. It s been a really great thing for NHRMC and the community. We have received very positive feedback from the community, folks are happy to have access to an easy and central location with great parking.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - People with appointments for COVID-19 vaccines can now get their shots at a Wilmington movie theater. New Hanover Regional Medical Center has set up shop inside the theater at The Pointe at Barclay off S. 17th St.
“Stone Theatre Group has so generously allowed us to use their site,” said Dr. Phil Brown, Chief Physician at NHRMC. “Their national CEO intends to come see the operation with plans to enlist all their nationwide facilities as sites for community vaccination campaigns.”

NEW HANOVER COUNTY The simple answer to the question is: It’s not clear yet. Depending on which category you fall in, it could be in a matter of days, weeks, or even months down the line for the general public to gain access to a Covid-19 vaccine.
For now, there’s no way for the general public to set an appointment to get vaccinated. That time will come, but it’s not here yet.
