One can learn a lot from walking a mile in another’s shoes, but how often does said mile involve choreography and musical numbers? Paul Kane High School’s production of Freaky Friday brings the audience into the complicated lives of a mother and daughter, allowing us to learn about them at the same time as they learn about each other.
Based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 book, and its multiple film adaptations, the 2018 stage adaptation of Freaky Friday came from the minds of playwright Bridget Carpenter, composer Tom Kitt, and lyricist Brian Yorkey. This version shows the hilariously thought-provoking aftermath of a mother and daughter swapping bodies after breaking a magical hourglass. The two are forced to live as each other for a day, therefore providing a further understanding of each other’s experiences and perspectives. ....
