domestic violence incident in ma ren city involving 20-year-old derek mccann. this morning, a deputy saw mccann s car and started to pursue. under surveillance video shows the suspects car slam into tables and chairs and pin a customer against the wall. ken witnessed everything. it s all the glass, i saw it made a four-door car into a two-door car. there he is. there is the guy others choraled the driver running away. reporter: eventually they cornered him. he jumps up a off. we knew something had bad happened. police say the suspect hit four vehicles, including one that belongs to a sheriffs deputy. it shows how close roughly 20 customers came to tragedy. we are very fortunate we didn t have more fatalities in this incident. the man that was pend against the wall actually walked away. several good samaritans came and moved the car away from him. police say the woman and child were not involved. they were taken to the hospital along with the suspects and someone i
door. i don t know when i would have heard about it. hugs for the redwood city residents who lost everything in this massive fire. the flames and smoke could be seen for miles. good afternoon. i m frank mallicoat. michelle is on assignment. an apartment complex went up in flames this morning sending dozens of tenants trying to escape the burning building. the six-alarm fire consumed several units on the top floor of this woodside road apartment building in redwood city. flames spread quickly jumping from unit to unit and even brought down the roof. there s probably about 3 or 4 units on the third floor that are completely burned out. there s units on every side of that, that are going to have damage and then probably units below it on the floors below from the water and perhaps even from fire damage. no word yet on what sparked the fire. kpix 5 s cate caugiran is live there now. cate, you spoke with people who live there and we understand many didn t know what was goi
i m mara schiavocampo. we ve avoided a potentially catastrophic default on the nation s bills. it took a last minute deal, but this morning the government is open and the debt ceiling is raised. at least for now. the deal is short term. we ll have more on that in a moment. but first, president obama signed the bill into law early this morning after 16 days of stalemate on capitol hill. he says he s convinced lawmakers on both sides can work together to make progress for america. we can begin to lift this cloud of uncertainty and unease from our businesses and from the american people. there is a lot of work ahead of us, including our need to earn back the trust of the american people that s been lost over the last few weeks. and we can begin to do that by addressing the real issues that they care about. but the road to resolution was not an easy one. without objection, the motion to reconsider is laid upon the table. the republican dominated house passed the measure 2
