Some Wexford commissioners voice displeasure over not being able to participate in meeting virtually

CADILLAC â Although all nine Wexford County Board of Commissioners were present at Wednesday s meeting, only five were able to vote.
Per the March 31 Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Gathering and Face Mask Order Amendment, the public may participate in person in government meetings if social distancing guidelines are followed. That also meant the virtual meetings no longer were an option of the Open Meetings Act unless certain action was taken such as a municipality declaring a state of emergency.
What that meant Wednesday is the four commissioners who attended the meeting via Zoom, Joe Hurlburt, Michael Musta, Julie Theobald and Brian Potter, were not able to vote on any action item. ....

Wexford Co. Courthouse closed rest of the week due to COVID concerns

CADILLAC â Around 1 p.m. Tuesday, a notice was sent out saying the Wexford County Finance Committee had been moved from its original Thursday meeting time to March 16.Â
While that in itself is not significant, changes to meeting times happens all the time, it was a little foreshadowing for what was to come later in the day. After a 4-0 vote by the members of the Wexford County Executive Committee, Gary Taylor, Mike Bengelink, Mike Musta and Joe Hurlburt, the Wexford County Courthouse was closed beginning Wednesday and continuing through March 14. The closure was the result of COVID-19 concerns and a string of recent positive cases in county employees. ....
