MARQUETTE The city of Marquette is one step closer to hiring its next city manager after conducting public interviews with six finalists on Saturday.
Current Marquette City Manager Mike Angeli’s successor could be decided as soon as today, with the commission slated to hold a special meeting beginning at 5:15 p.m. to discuss the potential selection. Angeli is set to retire June 1.
The city received 40 applicants for the position in the initial search phase, which was conducted by Walsh Municipal Services LLC of downstate Okemos. The six finalists were selected at the April 12 commission meeting, three weeks prior to the public interview phase, which took place Saturday. ....

MARQUETTE The city of Marquette will soon have its hands on another piece of lakeshore property.
The Marquette City Commission voted 7-0 at its April 26 meeting to approve a purchase agreement with the Robert T. Anthony Trust for the sale of 702 N. Lakeshore Blvd. The private residential property at the corner of Lakeshore and Hewitt Avenue lies on the Lake Superior side of the street, and the city intends to preserve the land for public use. ....

Search for new Marquette city manager continues Saturday with public interviews | News, Sports, Jobs


MARQUETTE The city of Marquette is one step closer to hiring a city manager.
The candidate pool was narrowed down to six applicants during a closed session at the April 12 Marquette City Commission meeting. The candidate who is ultimately hired will succeed current city manager Mike Angeli, who is set to retire on June 1.
The city hired Walsh Municipal Services LLC in February to conduct the nationwide search process. The Okemos-based firm had previously worked with neighboring Marquette Township on its search for a new manager last year.
According to Walsh Municipal Services President Frank Walsh, the city received 40 applicants for the position. Of those applicants, 28 were current managers for their local municipalities. ....

Coastal management grant agreement approved | News, Sports, Jobs

MARQUETTE The Marquette City Commission recently approved a coastal management grant agreement for funding from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy’s Coastal Management Program.
At its Feb. 8 regular meeting, the commission voted 7-0 to approve the grant agreement and a corresponding budget adjustment. The grant money, awarded by EGLE in October, will be used to help fund the city’s ongoing coastal restoration initiatives. Funds will go toward planning, design and restoration within the project area along Lakeshore Boulevard, city documents state.
The city requested $200,000 from EGLE to go toward the total project cost of $402,851, and also has a 50.35% match. ....
