As per Sebi norms, mid cap schemes are mandated to invest in companies that are between 101 and 250 in the market capitalisation. These companies can be leaders of tomorrow. Thats what makes them great bets. If these companies live up to the promise, the market will reward the investors handsomely.
Investors are shifting from smallcap to largecap funds due to better valuations and higher earnings growth expectations in large caps. Large cap schemes like Quant Large Cap Fund and Bank of India Bluechip Fund delivered high returns in FY24.
Between April 2023 to January 2024, around 47% of the Nifty500 universe generated more than 50% returns & nearly 20% of the universe more than doubled their stock prices. Most of this action was witnessed in mid and smallcap categories.
A total of 3.63 lakh new mutual fund folios were added in small cap category. The corresponding data for mid cap and large cap schemes stood at 2.99 lakh and 1.79 lakh, respectively.
