Central New York native Mickey Meyer has won an Oscar for the short film “Two Distant Strangers.”
The Observer-Dispatch reports Meyer, who was born and raised in Clinton, N.Y., was an executive producer for the live-action short starring rapper Joey Bada$$ as a Black man stuck in a time loop and forced to relive a deadly run-in with a cop (Andrew Howard).
Writer-director Travon Free and co-director Martin Desmond Roe received the award for Best Live Action Short Film at the 2021 Academy Awards on Sunday. Free, who wore a black-and-gold blazer with the names of Eric Garner, Philando Castile, Tamir Rice, Daunte Wright and others written on the jacket’s inside lining, spoke out against police shootings during his acceptance speech. ....
