Galleries and studios across Scotland are ready to welcome visitors

.- From the Pier Arts Centre in Orkney to Cample Line Gallery in Dumfries and Galloway all over the country this spring and summer, Scotland’s art galleries, studios, contemporary art venues and production workshops are opening up. Now a new campaign to help the public find their nearest gallery and champion Scotland’s world class contemporary art and studio facilities has been launched.
The #ArtUnlocks campaign organised by Scottish Contemporary Art Network (SCAN), will highlight the cultural opportunities in neighbourhoods across Scotland, with venues that are ready to welcome visitors and artists from 26th April over the coming months. New openings will be announced and shared using the hashtag #ArtUnlocks and a continually refreshed lis ....

The great galleries reopening


In the last year, we have all become digital humans, casting our virtual net far and wide as our lives shrank to hearth, home and heath, punctuated with the odd supermarket visit to spice things up. In visual arts, festivals and galleries alike have had to weather many a storm in order to come out the other side. The good news is that Scotland s art spaces should start opening up after April 26. So if like me, you have been missing seeing actual art, what is there to look forward to this year?

Last year, just weeks away from opening, Glasgow International (Gi), Scotland s major biennial festival of contemporary art was forced to postpone. It s back with a Director’s Programme of commissions and exhibitions in collaboration with partners and venues. Scots artist appeals for the sounds of bats for new musical piece


She is the award-winning visual artist, composer and performer who captured authentic birdsong and seal sounds alongside her vocals for musical pieces.
Now Glasgow-based Hanna Tuulikki who produces work that refuses to be pigeonholed is embarking on a unique nationwide search for bat recordings for a new composition.
She has spread the net UK-wide to find recordings of bat echolocation calls for a new composition Echo in the Dark that will feature in a performance event in Arbroath’s Hospitalfield art centre, as part of their 2021-22 art programme.
The 2017 winner of the Scottish Award for New Music in Sonic Arts is beginning to gather an archive of recordings to be made into what she calls a public library of sounds. ....
