Doing so greatly increases residentsâ chances of surviving a house fire, according to a news release Thursday. âEvery second counts and smoke alarms provide the warning you and your loved ones need to be able to evacuate safely,â said Orlene Hawks, director of the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
