As we move toward more electric vehicles in the United States, a lack of proper infrastructure is becoming a problem. University of Michigan Mechanical Engineering Professor Jeff Sakamoto says we’ll need more lithium battery factories and fast charging stations.
“Currently the Department of Energy is defining ten minutes as the fast charge, and right now with the way lithium ion performance is tracking, ten minutes is likely something that’s feasible,” Sakamoto said.
Testifying before the Michigan House Transportation Committee this week, Sakamoto said sales of electric vehicles are expected to be 30% of all auto sales by 2030.
