CADILLAC, MICH. Michigan’s sprawling Huron-Manistee National Forests will be undertaking a few local projects in 2021, including replacing bridges along portions of the North Country Trail and improving river access for anglers and paddlers.
The projects are part of a $285 million investment made possible by the new National Parks and Public Land Legacy Restoration Fund, established in 2020 by the Great American Outdoors Act. According to the USDA Forest Service, these funds will support more than 500 infrastructure improvement projects essential to the enjoyment of national forests and grasslands, while reducing the Forest Service’s $5.9 billion deferred maintenance backlog.
