One lesson from the recent state legislative races in the Mahoning Valley is Republicans in Ohio are better funded and better organized than their Democratic counterparts. Despite the $1.3 billion nuclear power plants bailout scandal involving the former speaker of the House and four other Republicans that was expected to hurt that political party, voters backed the GOP. Republicans, who already had a super majority, actually picked up seats in the General Assembly. That included a House and a Senate seat in Trumbull County. Republicans nearly grabbed the other House spot in Trumbull and had no trouble defending an appointee in Mahoning County. ....
PLATTSBURGH â A Plattsburgh man is accused of fraud. A report made Sept. 23 by Dannemora Federal Credit Union initiated an investigation that led to the arrest of James R. Guerin, 30, on Dec. 16. State Police charged him with third-degree grand larceny, a felony, for depositing a fraudulent check, then withdrawing $6,154.24 from the credit union, according to a press release. He was arraigned virtually Plattsburgh City Court and was sent to Clinton County Jail without bail due to previous convictions. According to the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision inmate lookup, Guerin previously served prison time for larceny, burglary and criminal mischief. ....
Newton recently appointed three newly elected members to its Board of Directors: Annie Greene, Eric Boecher and Gloria Greene, a Newton native, joins the Board of Directors after 10 years of involvement at the Y s residential camp, Camp Frank A. Day. She attended Frank A. Day as a camper and then spent four years as a counselor. In 2018, she spoke about her camp experience at the Y s A Night Under the Stars fundraising gala. She is a graduate of St. Lawrence University and is currently working as a nanny while attending nursing school. She is the daughter of the late Frederick Greene, who served on the Y s Board of Directors and is remembered as a tireless community advocate. ....

For the former, it didn’t work out as he lost his re-election bid, while it nearly came back to bite the latter who spent little in the final days of the campaign and won by only 0.74 of a percent. Sean O’Brien, D-Bazetta, lost by 2 percent to Republican Sandra O’Brien of Lenox in the Ohio Senate 32nd District race, even though he raised and spent significantly more money than her. ....
