NJ Dems call for South Jersey operative investigation

.
More than six months after the 2020 elections, Republicans in some states are still searching for elusive evidence of voter fraud they say robbed their party of the White House.
After dozens of recounts, lawsuits and private investigations such as the ongoing vote “audit” in Maricopa County, Arizona, they’ve found none.
But credible allegations of mail-in ballot fraud and other voting irregularities continue to stream from one corner of New Jersey, where Democrats are demanding investigations and shouting for election monitors ahead of next month’s primary.
At the center of the controversy is a political operative who’s been instrumental in getting an entire generation of South Jersey Democrats elected to city council, school board and the state Legislature. Craig Callaway is also an ex-convict who spent 40 months in federal prison after accepting $36,000 in bribes while serving as Atlantic City Council president. ....

Far-right politics complicates GOP effort in key New Jersey legislative district

But even after Donald Trump’s once-gleaming former casino along the famed New Jersey Boardwalk was turned into rubble, the far-right, anti-immigrant, white identity politics the former president embraced still stand and threaten to undermine Republicans‘ chances of holding onto a state Senate seat in South Jersey they flipped from Democratic control four years ago.
Sen. Chris Brown (R-Atlantic) announced his retirement in February, a month after he was one of just two New Jersey Republicans to vote for a resolution condemning Trump for inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. The GOP establishment in Atlantic County quickly rallied around Vince Polistina, an engineer and former two-term assemblymember, to run to replace Brown in the 2nd Legislative District. ....

The inauguration of Democrat Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States closes the contentious 2020 presidential election. But New Jersey Rep. Jeff Van Drew’s vote against certifying Biden’s win following the insurrection spurred by Donald Trump could follow him into the next congressional election.
Van Drew, who represents New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District, was the only New Jersey representative to back objections to certifying Electoral College votes on Jan. 6 and 7, when Congress affirmed Biden’s win, with 306 Electoral College votes. Another 120 House Republicans and seven senators from across the country also tried to prevent the certification. ....

Rep. Van Drew Dismisses Democrats' Call to Remove Some GOP Members From Congress

Rep. Van Drew Dismisses Democrats’ Call to Remove Some GOP Members From Congress
Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-N.J.) on Tuesday dismissed some Democrats’ call to unseat him and other Republican representatives from Congress because they supported the Texas lawsuit challenging the election results in four key states.
“The notion that after the people voted for me that I couldn’t sit in, you know, the House of Representatives, that you would literally disenfranchise my voters in my district is an absurd notion,” Van Drew told Fox News.
“I guess it’s because we support the president. And I guess it’s because we were worried about election integrity,” he added. “Regardless of the issue with the president, we need to ensure that we have the highest level of integrity in our elections.” ....

Good Tuesday morning!
We’re probably two days away from the Legislature voting to legalize marijuana.
But did you know that even after weed is legalized, a person caught growing even a relatively modest amount of it could face up to 20 years in prison, including a mandatory minimum sentence? ....
