There were 23 contestants in the Miss Kansas 2021 Competition that took place July 8, 9 and 10 in Pratt. The crown, sash and title of Miss Kansas 2021 was won by Miss Augusta Taylor Clark, a Kansas State University student who is from St. John.
The top 11 semifinalists named in the 2021 competition included fan favorite Dakota Derstein, Miss Santa Fe, who is from Dodge City. The other top 10 individuals were Marissa Hernandez, Miss Sedgwick County (Wichita); Regan Smith, Miss Meadowlark (Overland Park); Candace Sweetwood, Miss Chisholm Trail (Arkansas City); Ayanna Hensley, Miss Boot Hill (Dodge City); Clark; Katherine Wurzer, Miss Wichita (Wichita); Emily Rugg, Miss Air Capital (Greensburg); Courtney Wages, Miss Emerald City (Wichita); Alexandra Adkins, Miss South Centra (Wichita); and Paige Harding, Miss Heart of Kansas (Dodge City). ....

K-State President Richard B. Myers to speak at 2021 Salina Chamber meeting


Richard B. Myers, current Kansas State University President, retired four-star general, and 15th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will be the featured speaker at the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce annual membership meeting.
In addition, Michael Schwanke, news anchor with KWCH will be a special guest interviewing President Myers and discussing his leadership, military experience, and Salina’s Polytechnic Campus. The event will be held virtually, from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 1.
Myers returned to his home state and alma mater to serve as Kansas State University’s 14th President. He graduated from the university in 1965 with a Bachelor s degree in mechanical engineering and joined the Air Force through K-State’s ROTC program. The native Kansan from Merriam loyally served his country and retired as a four-star general. ....

One of KWCH s two evening news anchors is leaving the station for a new job

Feb. 1 One of KWCH Channel 12 s two main evening news anchors is leaving the station later this month for a job with Koch Industries.
Melissa Scheffler, who has been with the station for nearly 10 years, said her last day on the air will be Feb. 12. She s accepted a position on Koch s communication and marketing team a job she says will allow her to have more traditional work hours as she raises her two small children, ages 4 and 7 months.
Scheffler, who now anchors the 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts with Michael Schwanke, has been with KWCH since September of 2011. She s a Newton native who graduated from the University of Missouri and worked in Medford, Oregon, and Memphis before coming to Wichita as a reporter and anchor. ....
