Moonee Valley Racing Club won t start finalising its Cox Plate international wish list until Racing Victoria s Melbourne Cup report and recommendations for international competitors is released.
MVRC has long tried to attract some of the best-weight-for-age stars in the world to the Cox Plate and the club is already keeping a close eye on horses that could receive invites.
However, the findings and recommendations from the report, which is due shortly, could impact which horses are likely to fly to Australia for the Spring Carnival.
The report, which has been completed by RV and the Victoria Racing Club, is likely to recommend new requirements that horses must meet before being allowed to compete Down Under in the spring. ....

VALLEY REVEALS HOPES FOR AN “AUTUMN COX PLATE”

Moonee Valley might go it alone and create a star-studded Australian Cup equivalent if the Victoria Racing Club refuses to shift its signature summer weight-for-age race.
Moonee Valley Racing Club chief executive Michael Browell said the Valley hoped Racing Victoria might be supportive of the creation of a 2040m race worth $1.5 million-plus that would be run at Moonee Valley a fortnight after the All-Star Mile.
Browell said the race would be “an autumn Cox Plate” and would be a showcase for the new Moonee Valley track, which is due to be up and running in 2025, and a natural progression for All-Star runners. ....

Peter V’landys had a “direct conflict of interest” in his refusal to lock in a date for
The Everest, which has resulted in a Victorian roadblock to the race gaining Group 1 status.
