Massachusetts recently announced that 11 cities and towns across Greater Boston will be receiving $1 million for local environmental projects after the newest round of grants announced during the week of Dec. 14.
The program, “Accelerating Climate Resiliency,” gave more than $700,000 in the latest round of funding, part of a partnership between The Barr Foundation and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council in Boston.
Grants awards will go to the Beverly Strategic Tree Planting Initiative; the Charles River Floating Wetland Expansion in Cambridge; the Canton Resilience @ Home project; the Chelsea ‘Neighborhood Grid’ Energy Resilience effort; the Framingham Lake Waushakum Resiliency Design; the Malden River Works project for Waterfront Equity and Resilience; Growing Food and Social Resilience in Natick; Solutions to Build a Heat-Healthy Community in Somerville; Developme ....

FY22 budget process underway

WINCHESTER - As the calendar moves away from 2020 and into 2021, Town Manager Lisa Wong continues to put together her budget for FY22 (which begins on July 1). Sheâll finish it up by mid-February before it goes to the Finance Committee for tweaking. Finally, it winds up in the hands of Town Meeting in May for approval.
However, due to the coronavirus pandemic still ongoing, that schedule may need a bit of adjusting. As Select Board Chair Michael Bettencourt noted at the most recent Select Board meeting, departments heads asked for more time before submitting their budgetary needs to the Town Manager. ....

Design Review Committee seeks paid recording secretary

WINCHESTER - The Design Review Committee asked for a paid secretary to record their minutes similar to the Select Board, School Committee, Planning Board, etc. To pay for it, Town Manager Lisa Wong suggested using money originally reserved for the Sustainability Director (which will now be funded partly through a grant from the Metropolitan Area Planning Council) and redirecting it to this cause.
Select Board Chair Michael Bettencourt initially broached the subject and said it wouldnât cost a lot of money to hire someone and Wong said the position would cost approximately $2,000. The chair added the Design Review Committee is âgoing to be busy.â ....
