The death sentence has been vacated for an Ocala man who has been on death row for decades. Circuit Judge Steven Rogers issued an order setting aside the death sentence of Sonny Boy Oats, pursuant to a joint stipulation by the State Attorney s Office and the defense. The stipulation cited Oats intellectual disability. Florida death row statistics The 63-year-old has been on death row since his February 1981 sentencing, according to state records. Oats was sentenced a day shy of a year apart February 1981 and 1982 in both Marion and Lake counties for first-degree murder, attempted-second degree murder and two counts of robbery with a gun or deadly weapon, state records show. ....
Details of the horrific murder of the 15-year-old boy, six people are facing murder charges today, for beating and torturing and killing seth jackson, police say he was lured by a text message from his ex-girlfriend and when he got there, police say he was beaten and shot several times and his body was burned, and ashes put into large paint cans and the teenager who witnessed the crime tipped off police. he was really sweet. caring. a friend told me seth was dead and i was like, i don t know what to think and i started crying. and, then he was a really good kid and, i will miss him. tragic. police say the ring leader is an 18-year-old, michael bargo, who was dating her ex-girlfriend and his stepfather is charged with helping cover up the evidence and dive teams found three large paint drums and are testing the contents to determine if they are the remains of seth jackson. ....

Later, detectives say amber s 37-year-old stepfather helped sanitize the crime scene with bleach and then allegedly deposed of seth s body. police say that when seth arrived, they bum rushed him and began to beat him. detectives say he was then tortured, bones were broken. he was repeatedly shot and then his body was set on fire. the burned remains swept into paint cans and dumped into a quarry. dive teams later recovered those remains. it was horrible. reporter: carrie williams was one of the last people to see seth alive. not just like they murdered him. they tortured him. they tortured him and then torched his body. it just it s very upsetting. you re charged with first-degree murder. reporter: 18-year-old michael bargo allegedly pulled the target. potentially facing the death penalty. reporter: why was seth killed? detectives who have looked at this facebook page where seth professed his love for amber ....
