He is best known in the kaiso arena but his first release for the year is actually a reggae song that is deeply spiritual.
Veteran calypsonian and promoter Leroy Straker, who has been singing since 1984, has a new song called
Changed which carries with it an inspiring message.
Georgie hopes the song, which he penned, would speak to someone who maybe going through a trying period, especially during this ongoing COVID-19 lockdown.
“I hope this new reggae song can be an eye opener and a game changer to some soul that is searching for peace and contentment and a new life”, he told ....

First Vice President of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) Ryan Walters is demanding that the Mia Mottley-led administration provides answers on what portion of its more than $2 billion stimulus package was still outstanding and why.
Walters said it appeared Government had “aborted” its plan to resuscitate the economy.
“The Government promised economic stimulus in excess of $2 billion dollars, an amount similar to what was promised on April 29,” Walters recalled.
In April last year, Prime Minister Mia Mottley announced an unprecedented two-year $2 billion recovery plan, in an apparent response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which started affecting the island in March. ....

DLP: Time to pause - Barbados Today

With the number of recorded COVID-19 cases on the island upward of 700, president of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) Verla De Peiza is pleading with Government to put Barbados “on pause”.
De Peiza said the time had come for the Mia Mottley-led administration to restrict international flights for one week to allow health authorities to adequately test the increased local COVID-19 cases.
“The Democratic Labour Party on behalf of the people of Barbados again calls for serious consideration of a national pause. We are moving towards that anyway when one considers the number of closed establishments, and the number of citizens again working from home. ....

The Mia Mottley-led administration is being accused of playing “Russian Roulette” with the lives of Barbadians.
It has come from Opposition Leader Reverend Joseph Atherley, who has condemned Government’s decision to keep the island’s borders open to visitors from the UK and other high-risked countries despite an upsurge in the number of local COVID-19 cases.
Yesterday, during a live televised COVID-19 update, Mottley said a shutdown of the country’s borders or a lockdown could lead to more economic hardship for Barbadians already struggling due to the pandemic.
“What we are very clear on is that a national shutdown of our borders or a lockdown will carry significant pressures to other types of persons and to all kinds of issues. If we were to shut down the country as some are asking for, then we would run the risk of persons not being able to carry out their duties,” the Prime Minister said. ....
