Craig Lieberman was a technical advisor for Universal Pictures during the first three Fast & Furious movies, and he recalls all of the rejected cars for the first film in his latest YouTube video. He explains the cars chosen needed to fit the character, fit the film s small budget, and be suitable for any planned action sequences. They also needed to be sold new in the U.S. at the time, and represent the tuner scene in America. That meant no supercars, no right-hand-drive cars, and nothing boring. In the original script, many of the characters were written with different cars versus what actually ended up in the movie. In the opening scene, Brian was originally supposed to be driving a Mitsubishi 3000GT, rather than an Eclipse. Vince was supposed to drive a Honda Civic, but because the actor, Matt Schulze, was too tall, he drove a Maxima instead.
