It was completed in 1999, standing on stilts above the River Goyt, and created a route through the previously impassable gritstone gorge at Torrs, New Mills which is an area of exceptional natural beauty and unique industrial archaeological heritage. The Sett Valley trail is a good, and accessible, walking route. It is a 2.5 mile traffic-free green corridor for people and wildlife. Being a former railway, the trail provides an easy access route and allows everyone to share in the hills.
