The BJP leader alleged that over 1 crore job cards under the MGNREGA scheme were deleted for various reasons and claimed that thousands of crores of rupees was pocketed by the corrupt functionaries of the ruling party and government officials.
Abhishek Banerjee is in Delhi along with party leaders to protest against delayed payments to MGNREGA job card holders and PMAY beneficiaries in Bengal.
"They are claiming that the Centre did not release funds, which is wrong. The Modi government has released Rs 54,150 crores to Bengal, which is much higher than the Rs 14,985 crores that the UPA government had given," Union I&B Minister Anurag Thakur told media.
The Union Ministry of Rural Development issued a notification for the rural job guarantee programme for the financial year 2023-24. The wage revision was done under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme 2005 of section 6(1).
