Though many transit agencies, prominently including Foothill Transit, are proceeding with electrification, these buses remain a relatively new technology, so Metro will be an important proving ground. In 2017, as part of Metro’s commitment to electrify its entire bus fleet by 2030, the board approved two electric bus pilots on its Bus Rapid Transit lines. At that time, the G (Orange) Line was scheduled to be all electric buses by June 30, 2020, and the J (Silver) Line was initially scheduled to be all electric by June 30, 2021. ....
Today, in a letter addressed to Metro Board Chair Eric Garcetti, Metro CEO Phil Washington announced that he does not plan to seek a new contract when his current contract expires in May 2020. Phil Washington has been the CEO of Metro since 2015, when he was recruited from the Denver Regional Transportation District. Washington’s letter touts his accomplishments, including “improved mobility and access to opportunity for all residents of L.A. County” and having “weathered the most devastating health crisis of the past century.” He only hints at his next opportunity, stating, “I look forward to advocating and advancing the mission of Metro in my next endeavor.” ....
Updated on January 25, 2021 at 3:55 am Metro.Net The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority is expanding its new ride-hailing service Metro Micro into the Compton/Artesia, El Monte and North Hollywood/Burbank areas starting Monday. Metro Micro will replace Metro s Mobility on Demand program, which was already operating in the three zones. Each ride-hailing vehicle holds up to 10 passengers, but during the COVID-19 pandemic, capacity will be limited to five passengers.
