squint, that the social democrats beat out angela merkel s party, the christian democrats. that s not really the case they only won by a little less than two percentage points, and that means they re really going to have to govern in a coalition. that coalition is probably not going to be with one other party. it s probably going to involve three parties total from across the ideological spectrum so really you re going to be seeing a lot more merkelism down the line this is going to be a government of compromise, a government that s going to bring together left and right, all of them are going to have to deal with each other, and it s going to be more of the same merkelism. in fact, those two leading contenders for the chancellorship, they spent the entire campaign trying their best to convince the german public that they are as much like merkel as possible. they were competing with each other to stylize themselves as angela merkel herself. so this election, what it really shows more t
