GRAND RAPIDS, MI SpartanNash says it’s partnering with the state and federal government to offer the COVID-19 vaccine at each of its 88 pharmacies throughout the Midwest.
“With multiple COVID-19 vaccinations approved and ready for broad distribution in the coming months, SpartanNash and our family of retail pharmacies are here for our store guests, and we are committed to providing them with a safe, clean environment to receive this important vaccine,” Lori Raya, the company’s executive vice president and chief merchandising and marketing officer. ....

Howard Park restaurant to open Monday in South Bend

The idea was born before construction at the newly redeveloped Howard Park in downtown South Bend even began.
City of South Bend Venues Parks and Arts executive director Aaron Perri wanted to bring a new and different amenity to the ice skating rink and open green space. He wanted to bring a restaurant.
âWe were thinking something that was open for four seasons, would be family friendly, where a group of colleagues could go to get a drink and something that was local and something that fit the parkâs look and feel,â he said.
The city submitted a request for proposals for the space and Perri said three bids were submitted and considered with South Bend Chocolate Company owner and founder Mark Tarner ultimately succeeding. ....

Martin's Super Market store on Nappanee Street in Elkhart to close Jan. 23

A store manager confirmed the closure, but wouldn t comment further.
In an email statement, Meredith Gremel, vice president of corporate affairs and communications for SpartanNash, said the decision to close the store was based on our continuous evaluation of our retail footprint and what is best for our more than 150 company-owned stores, our associates and the communities we serve.
âWhile it is never an easy decision to close a store, this is not a reflection on our dedicated associates or their commitment to serving our customers, Gremel said in a written statement on Friday.
According to the Martin s website, there are currently four other store locations in Elkhart, including a newly constructed store on Jackson BoulevardÂ that opened in August 2020 and is a part of the city s River District redevelopment project. In Jan. 2020, the company closed Portage Meat & Market on Portage AvenueÂ in South Bend citing similar reasons behind that closure. ....

Guiding Light receives $20K from SpartanNash Foundation - Grand Rapids Business Journal

The nonprofit Guiding Light received a grant that will support its Back to Work program.
The Grand Rapids organization announced the grant Monday, noting this is the third consecutive year it received a $20,000 grant from the SpartanNash Foundation, which has provided a total of $70,000 to the nonprofit since 2016.
Back to Work provides a short-term stay for men who are experiencing homelessness and seeking full-time employment, along with support for their job searches.
“We are so grateful for the SpartanNash Foundation’s continued support of our organization and our work,” said Stuart Ray, executive director of Guiding Light. “This grant will allow us to continue to support men who face significant barriers to finding and keeping full-time work, including debt, lack of housing, lack of transportation and other challenges.” ....

SpartanNash and Miller Poultry recently donated 24,200 pounds of chicken to local food banks in Michigan and Indiana for family meals during the holiday season.
Throughout December, SpartanNash and Miller Poultry teamed up to donate 8,000 pounds of chicken to Access of West Michigan and its network of local food pantries, including SECOM, Streams of Hope, St. Al’s and Green Apple; 9,200 pounds of chicken to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan; and 7,000 pounds of chicken to the Food Bank of Northern Indiana.
VG’s Grocery, Family Fare and Martin’s Super Market associates helped with the distribution of the donations. ....
