Putting a pinstripe on each side of a car can’t be that hard – and isn’t that hard – unless you’re trying to meet the standard expected at the pinnacle of the market. At Rolls-Royce’s Goodwood factory in the south of England, all pinstripes (or coach lines) are hand-painted by the one artisan, Mark Court, in a process that can take up to five hours per vehicle.
For the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, many customers order a two-tone finish, and on the all-new flagship, a pinstripe divides the two zones. It is created by masking, then spray painting, which sounds like a more typical automotive production process.
