On the tea party beat. tremendous energy out there in the conservative grass roots to basically repeal and end obamacare. not just tinker with it. can you walk us through where that political energy goes if the proposals we re hearing about don t sound like an immediate overnight end? we re seeing a period of conservative legislating that we haven t really seen in about two decades since newt gingrich came in in 1995 with that republican revolution. right now republicans are telling me they re focussing on rolling back many parts of the affordable care act. they re going leave some aspects in, if you have insurance letting you keep it, then adding new elements like tax credits and buying across state lines. republicans don t have a straightforward plan yet. and so as much as they want to repeal it. they have to figure out how to replace that. much of the debated 2017. right on the docket is getting rid of a lot of the regulations on things like energy, health ....
Members want. the republican leaders prefer a three-year delay to create a transition period. and i ve even heard from knowledgeable people there s been discussion about delaying it four years to put off that. why not eight? right. so that s where this comes in? the big problem is that republicans have had six to seven years to come up with a replacement plan. and the only thing to agreen to are broad strokes, tax advantage health savings account. translating that means supporting a new system that ll ultimately mean fewer people with coverage. that is the big challenge they have and, you know, we ll see whether they can achieve that. well i m remind of of st. augustine cho who said lord, deliver me from sin, just not yet. and there may be some desired delay there for the same reason. before i let you go, i want to ask you about a lighter political note, according to one source who spoke with the new york post that donald trump, chuck schumer sweet talking has begun. during a rec ....
The debate leading up to obamacare and it s crossed several presidential elections here now. what actually happens in your view when the rubber hits the road and how will the republican lek tort respond if they re so-called repeal doesn t actually repeal in the coming year or two? that s a great question, so ari, what republicans are going to do as their act is begin the process of repealing obamacare. they re going to do it through a process known as reconciliation to bypass the filibuster. democrats will not be able to stop them. then the hard work comes in, the ewe forra of acting on repeal is going to give away to the reality that 20 million people will be left out in the cold if the law is repealed with no replacement. republicans will have to balance that with the promises they ve made for the last six or seven years they want to repeal and replace this law. their base is determined to see that happen. whether or not they ll accept the consequences remains to be seen because 20 ....
