Five former Memphis, Tenn., police officers pleaded not guilty on Friday to second-degree murder and other charges in the violent arrest and death of Tyre Nichols, with his mother saying afterward that none of them would look her in the eye in court.
A lawyer for the family of Tyre Nichols, a Black man who died at a hospital three days after a confrontation with Memphis police during a traffic stop earlier this month, said Monday that video of the encounter shows it was "violent" and "troublesome on every level."
