i want to go through the cameras to give you a sense of what we are seeing across the bay area. here is the camera. you can see the haziness over the bay bridge, causing low visibility this morning all across the waters there. this is ssl. it is gray. this is not clouds and not fog. it is smoke throughout the area. places like san jose are looking pretty nasty this morning. south of san francisco, you can smell it. here s a look at the golden gate bridge where you normally see the fog coming through but we are seeing smoke all across the area. of course, it is because of the fires across to the north. the smoke and the fire is burning. you can see the line where you can see the glow. that is where the fires are burning. it is sending the thick smoke billowing. the high definition doppler is showing a good view of the smoke, spreading further south and highway 29 is dealing with it it is one thread but we can pick it up on the satellite radar. that is where the smoke is ....
so they say it s just too dangerous to have people in the area. firefighters say their crews are very tired after yesterday s enormous fire fight. they do, though, expect another busy day today. yesterday was definitely coordinated chaos, it was crazy, we continued to bring a lot of resources into the city, we re definitely not seeing the fire activity that we saw 24 hours ago, however, we do still have a lot of hot spots, active fire that s flaring up, with he continue to get reports of structure fires, vegetation fires all within the fire area. so although it doesn t look as dramatic as it was when it first started there is still a lot of work that needs to be done, we will be here for the long haul. reporter: there is a curfew now in place, firefighters tell us it does feel eerie to them here because there are no people here. if you are worried about your homes, they want to really emphasize that there is a heavy law enforcement presence here watching for any loo ....
evacuation areas. they will there s zero containment on any of these fires. 1,500 structures have been burned and that includes homes, businesses. in sulfur county fire has burned 2,500 acres, but that one is 5% contained. ee know of ten confirmed fatalities as a result. six burned victims we do know have been flown to san francisco. san francisco memorial has received some of the victims there. some of them are in critical condition. again, this is has been a very long and devastating 24 hours. fires are still burning where flames destroyed several businesses in santa rosa today. reporter: i just talked to a homeowner who lives on monticello road just a few doors down that way. when we caught up with him, he was actually coming out of his house. he had a few belongings in his arm, and he was locking the gate at the base of his driveway. he was leaving and had an rv parked out front and with the motor running. he said he had actually stayed last night over night ....
reporter: i m allen martin live in santa rosa at the journey s end mobile home park in santa rosa where earlier today fire raced down that hill after it got into the big hilton hotel, jumped across the road, and got into this trailer park, and i m telling you it s just wiped it out. destroyed it. 100 homes are gone. behind me that twisted burned out metal, that was someone s home. next to it is a driveway, the burned out shell what was someone s car. next to that, another burned out home. then a car, then a home, then a car. you get the idea. this goes on street after street after street. 100 homes destroyed as i said. firefighters were able to save between 50 and 60 of the homes. we ll be running updates for at the bottom of the screen to deal with the evacuation areas, the shelters, and also the closures happening. we ll show it to you at the bottom of the screen. now at least 15 fires are burning in six counties tonight. napa, sonoma, yuba city, lake, butte, and me ....
there is zero containment of those fires. and at least 1,500 buildings have been destroyed. the fires have also forced more than 20,000 people to evacuate. and the window is open right now for the best conditions we are going to have the next, say, two to three days, calm conditions, you can see that as i ve overlaid the winds on live doppler 7, but let me show you what you re dealing with up in the north bay, look at all that smoke in the napa valley up towards vacaville and from cloverdale and lake port all the way up through mendocino county, visibility because of the smoke down to a mile and a half at the napa county airport. from the east bay hills, it is still out there, it is a spare the air. i will show you the air conditions coming up next. temperatures, it is cooler this morning, in the upper 40s to mid 50s, we will stay cooler this afternoon, low to mid 60s at the coast, mid 70s around the bay, upper 70s inland. more on that choking smoke that s out there ....
