FALL RIVER The Fall River Police Department will bring in an outside investigator to look into an incident that saw an officer share a controversial post about George Floyd and Derek Chauvin on the department s Facebook page. Members of the Fall River Police Department will continue to work hard in service to all citizens of Fall River, and strive to build relationships based on mutual trust and respect, Police Chief Jeffrey Cardoza said in a statement on Thursday morning.
On Wednesday, the day after Chauvin was convicted of murder in Floyd s killing, a post appearing to criticize Floyd s actions during the arrest that lead up to his death while approving of Chauvin s courtroom demeanor was posted and then deleted from the Fall River Police Department s official Facebook.

After writing a Facebook post criticizing George Floyd on the Fall River Police Department’s Facebook page this week, the officer is being reassigned and there will be an independent investigation, the department said.
“Today’s posting in no way reflects the beliefs of this organization. I am personally disappointed these attitudes exist,” Chief of Police Jeffrey Cardoza wrote on Facebook. “Through training, we have been and will continue to ensure our staff practices fair and impartial policing.”

A police officer in Fall River, Massachusetts, has been reassigned to a position that has no contact with the public, after sharing a controversial post on social media in support of Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted on three counts of murdering George Floyd.
The announcement comes after the Fall River Police Department said the officer inadvertently posted a statement to the department s Facebook account on Tuesday that appeared to show support for Chauvin and criticize Floyd.

A Massachusetts police department issued an apology Thursday after an officer published his personal opinion on the police’s page that compared former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin to George Floyd, the man he was convicted Tuesday of murdering. It is with regret that the Fall River Police Department s Facebook page was accessed by personnel who inadvertently re-posted an opinion that was meant for their own personal account, the apology post on the police department s page reads. The posting in no way represents the opinion of the Chief of Police or the Fall River Police Department.
