Los Angeles, California - An electrical engineer who schemed to illegally obtain integrated circuits with military applications that were exported to China without the required filing of electronic export information was sentenced Thursday to 63 months in federal prison.
Yi-Chi Shih, 66, of Hollywood Hills, was sentenced by United States District Judge John A. Kronstadt, who also ordered him to pay $362,698 in restitution to the IRS and fined him $300,000.
After a seven-week jury trial that concluded in July 2019, Shih was convicted of one count of conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Shih also was conv ....

San Bernardino terror attack: Man who supplied weapons, Enrique Marquez Jr., gets 20-year sentence


Monday marked four years since the terror attack in San Bernardino rocked the nation, leaving 14 people dead and 22 others wounded.
The sentencing in federal court in Riverside came after families of the victims pleaded with a judge to give Marquez a lengthy sentence. Prosecutors had asked for a 25-year sentence and Marquez s attorney had suggested five years.
Marquez has a high IQ and the mental capacity to understand the likelihood of an attack occurring once he bought the weapons, prosecutor Melanie Sartoris said.
He knew all along that this would happen, but he did nothing, Sartoris said.
Defense attorney John Aquilina argued in court that his client had no knowledge of what was going to happen. ....
