Published May 01. 2021 8:39PM BRISTOL, R.I. (AP) A peace vigil is planned in Bristol this weekend in response to the discovery of stickers in town this week that included images of Adolf Hitler. The vigil was held Saturday in Independence Park, according to Mel Bynum, a Bristol resident and founder of East Bay Diversity. “COVID is not the only virus in our country. There is no vaccine for racism,” Bynum told The Providence Journal. “We have to put the work in. We need to change how we educate, starting with teaching the young the value of all lives, taking back that slogan from those who really mean to say that only their lives matter.” ....
The Bristol police on Tuesday announced that they were investigating after stickers found at the post office and library, on Hope Street, showed Hitler with the words White Boy Summer. The police found four more stickers with discriminatory connotation posted in other public places. The police were continuing their work Thursday to find whoever posted the stickers, according to Capt. Brian Burke. Detectives are still diligently pursing tips and possible leads, Burke said in an email Thursday. The police have also posted a video of the suspects to their Facebook page. The police believe all of the stickers have been removed, and they re still trying to determine whether the Bristol incident is related to a similar case in Warren earlier this month, according to Burke. ....
WARREN Disgusted by the recent appearance of white supremacist stickers on signs along a main thoroughfare here, several dozen demonstrators rallied on Sunday in front of Town Hall, where speaker after speaker called for individual and political action to curb racism. “Now is not the time for complacency, fear or denial,” said Mel Bynum, one of the organizers of the Warren Spread Peace Protest Rally. “Hate in this country is as epidemic as COVID-19. There is no cure for racism no vaccine because such hatred, though born of ignorance, is taught. No one is born racist. Seek truth in facts, not stereotypes or agenda-inspired lies.” ....
