1st overall picks are rare sightings in Philly
Much like anything else that happened for the Flyers during the 2020-21 season, the odds of winning the 2021 NHL Draft Lottery don’t look good.
On June 2, the ping pong balls will be in motion and the Flyers reportedly have a 1.8-percent chance of winning the draw and selecting first in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, which will take place July 23-24.
The Flyers have the third-worst odds among lottery-eligible teams, ahead of only the Dallas Stars and New York Rangers. Those same Rangers won last year’s lottery with a 2.5-percent chance, so similar things have happened in the very recent past.

The New Jersey Devils today named center Nico Hischier the 12th captain in team history. The announcement was made by Devils Executive Vice President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald, in conjunction with Head Coach Lindy Ruff.
Hischier, Ruff and Fitzgerald will all be available during New Jersey s post-game media video conference this afternoon.
At 22 years and 47 days old, he is the youngest captain currently in the NHL and the second youngest in New Jersey history (Kirk Muller, 21 years and 243 days old; both Muller and Hischier were handed the captaincy at the start of their fourth NHL season). Somewhat akin to the Philadelphia Flyers rivalry with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Philadelphia club s clashes with the Washington Capitals were far too lopsided in the Flyers favor in the early years to be considered much of a rivalry at all. By 1982, however, the Caps began to emerge as a solid NHL club and there started to be more at stake in the standings. By the time the teams started to face off against one another in the playoffs and games between the teams became physical, chippy contests, the teams couldn t stand the sight of one another.
