Weiswampach: vase sells for €78,000 - Delano - Luxembourg in English


A three-hundred-year-old vase that was discovered in a private home in Aubange (Belgium), near Rodange, sold on Sunday in the north of Luxembourg for €78,000.
It is the stuff of fantasy. Discovered by chance by an auctioneer in a private home in Aubange, Belgium, a few hundred metres from Rodange, the vase was auctioned last weekend for the sum of €78,000 at Goldfield Auction, located in Weiswampach.
“I had been called to this house by its owners. They wanted to have some of their property appraised. And in the living room, I saw this vase that was presented like so many others and that they didn t really want to ask me to appraise,” explains Raphaël Remy, the Belgian auctioneer of the Luxembourg auction house. Very interested in Chinese porcelain, the 42-year-old former antiques dealer spotted it on his own and appraised it as dating from the 18th century. ....

LANDSCAPE is a well-travelled subject for artists, all artists approach it uniquely and reveal an unseen aspect.
Two senior female artists participated in an excursion on the Bundian Way. Their discussions along the way led them to working together to draw on their appreciation of the landscape and to this exhibition. Their starting point was a book titled “A Field Guide to Getting Lost” by Rebecca Solnit, a metaphor for going into the unknown, into the dark: of letting go and losing oneself. ....

.- Among the various auctions of fine and decorative arts in New York held during “Americana Week”, Keno Auctions attained the highest price for any lot sold. On January 23rd, an iconic bronze sculpture of Diana by Augustus Saint-Gaudens (1848-1907) soared past its estimate of $200-400,000, selling for $506,000 (including BP). Purchased by a young New York couple, it is the fifth highest price at auction for any work by Saint-Gaudens. Recently discovered by Keno, the sculpture was on display at the Glascow Arms Restaurant in Delaware since its purchase by restaurant owner and collector, Constantine Sclavos in 1959. ....
