Bedridden Lukholo Mvelo, 13, whose family was awarded R15m as compensation by the state due to gross medical negligence when he was a patient at Butterworth Hospital, had to stop receiving vital physiotherapy years ago after his family ran out of money due to alleged financial mismanagement of the award claim by suspended attorney Zuko Nonxuba.
The Vhembe district has the highest number of claims at 500 but the department says some of the complaints are brought by unscrupulous people for money.
