The City Schools of Decatur School Board, at its April 25 work session, discussed the recommendations from the dyslexia task force. In some of their findings, the task force noted that the current screening procedures may be missing some kids.
As families leave City Schools of Decatur and struggle to get help for their children with learning differences, some parents are asking the district to improve its reading instruction and embrace the science of reading.
Voters in DeKalb County are casting ballots on May 24 for various primary races. Voters experienced some technical difficulties, but had smooth experiences once they were resolved.
Parents have recently shared concerns about the City Schools of Decatur reading program and have asked the district to fully embrace the science of reading, train all elementary school teachers in structured literacy practices and eliminate balanced literacy programs.
