Updated: 1:56 PM EDT May 21, 2021 VIDALIA, Ga. A Jacksonville man is facing murder charges in Georgia linked to the death of a Toombs County man earlier this week. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says 35-year-old Willie James Rogers has been charged with murdering 20-year-old Zacheriah Douglas Wright in rural Montgomery County on Monday. Wright was found on RT Lane with a gunshot wound to his torso. He was taken to Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia, where he died. Rogers was arrested on unrelated charges by the Vidalia Police Department on Monday and is currently in jail at the Toombs County Detention Center, according to GBI. He is now facing charges of malic murder, felony murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. ....

It s a strategic push by HCA to exit Atlanta s surrounding area. Earlier this week, HCA announced it was selling four hospitals to Piedmont Healthcare, a not-for-profit community based health system in Atlanta, for $950 million. After the sale of Redmond, HCA will no longer have a presence in northwest Georgia. Experts say Redmond Regional was not able to benefit from a broader HCA Healthcare network in the area. Efforts by HCA to expand its network into Georgia s southeast region took place May 3 when the company bought Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia. ....

The purchases from HCA, announced Monday, would make Atlanta-based Piedmont the leading system in Georgia in number of hospitals, at 15. The Emory and Wellstar systems are next, at 11. The deal had been rumored for several days. If regulators approve the acquisitions, as expected, the nonprofit Piedmont system will acquire Eastside Medical Center in Snellville; Coliseum Medical Centers and Coliseum Northside, both in Macon; and Cartersville Medical Center in Cartersville. The targeted closing date is July 31. HCA, a chain based in Tennessee, valued the acquisition price at $950 million. ....

(Getty/Martin Barraud) HCA Healthcare has signed off on a deal to sell four of its Georgia hospitals for roughly $950 million, the Nashville, Tennessee-based health system announced this morning. Piedmont Healthcare, an Atlanta-based not-for-profit system, is on the receiving end of the deal. It is expected to close by July 31 pending regulatory approval. “This is an exciting opportunity for Piedmont,” Kevin Brown, president and CEO of Piedmont, said in a statement. “HCA Healthcare has instilled a high standard of care into these facilities, and we are proud that they have trusted Piedmont to continue this legacy.” ....
