A tornado ripped through Brian College station leaving residential areas in tatters and brought enough rain to cause widespread flooding that shut down major roadways and swamped city streets. [ technical difficulties ] reporter neighbors say the victim here identified as 74yearold William Patton was a heavy smoker. You can see the ladder leading up to the second floor Apartment Unit there now just boarding it up. The assistant fire chief says smoking materials, specifically a cigarette butt is believed to be the cause here. Thanks to a working smoke alarm and a neighbors quick action, no one else was hurt. You see a broken window but no real sign of a second floor Apartment Fire and loss of life on mosby woods drive. Firefighters found a man inside a second floor bedroom and identified him William Patton. They pulled him out, he was unconscious. They did cpr, tried to revive him but injuries were not sustainable with life. Reporter a neighbor above mr. Patton heard the smoke we can tell you mr. Patton lived alone here. He was an American Legion post commander. Now, firefighters plan to go doortodoor to talk to neighbors about the benefits of working smoke detectors. That is

And that makes this story that much more tragic, if thats even possible. One of his colleagues shooting detective colson, shooting him kritly here on critically and ultimately he died. The chief saying tonight that detective colson displayed extreme heroism because he basically walked upon that gun battle and when he saw what he did, mind you, he was off duty in an unmarked vehicle with no uniform and no body armor and yet still he engaged that suspect and the chief says it was that extreme heroism that allowed those officers to then neutralize the threat.
