Peters said the design needed to be unique to the challenges for what will be the second race impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The 43-year-old race which normally occurs the second Sunday in July took place virtually last year Sunday, Sept. 13, due to the pandemic, after initially being pushed back; though some runners unofficially ran the course on its original July 12 date last year. Ryan McGrogan, whose Utica-based company McGrogan Design created logos for the 2019, 2020 and now the 2021 races, said he and Peters came up with the idea of the finish line being symbolic.
