MACOMB The West Prairie Rural Water District is signing a memorandum of understanding to join the McDonough County Alert System.
Emergency Services Director Edgar Rodriguez reported Tuesday that the water district decided to join the network after ESDA and the Western Illinois University GIS helped pinpoint a major water leak in the district.
Rodriguez said the water district would sign a two-year agreement and pay $500 per year for alert services.
The director said McDonough County Emergency Services and Disaster Assistance has invited all units of local government to meet March 3 in an effort to begin studying hazard mitigations in the county. Rodriguez said all have received a questionnaire to gauge their perceptions of natural hazards that impact the county. He said a consulting firm has been hired to guide the identification of hazard mitigations.
