Introducing UofL's new Student Government Association leaders

Knowing Covid-19 era disruptions are still on the minds of impacted students, members of the 2022-2023 Student Government Association are looking forward to reshaping and restoring the full University of Louisville student experience this academic year. The Top 4 SGA leaders, elected in March for the 2022-23 academic year, are made up of the student body president, executive vice president and two vice presidents (one for academics and one for service). Together, they lead the university's student government network across eight schools and colleges. Here's what they had to say about the upcoming school year. Dorian Brown, student body president Brown, a junior majoring in communications in the College of Arts & Sciences, is a member of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity that has three ideals at its core: leading, learning and serving. He is also passionate about puppies. "My favorite SGA activity is when we have puppies in the library during finals," Brown said. &quo ....

UofL graduate pushes through darkness to get to light


Gzeonie Hampton, a McConnell Scholar and a Porter Scholar, is one of UofL s 2021 grads.
Gzeonie Hampton felt like she was coming home when she enrolled at UofL as a McConnell Scholar and a Porter Scholar.
The North Hardin High School graduate’s exposure to UofL classrooms started about a decade prior when her aunt, Tanisha Thompson ’06, ’14, hauled her along to her courses in Strickler Hall and elsewhere.
Now Hampton’s aunt and the rest of her extended family will be celebrating with her May 7, when she graduates with an undergraduate degree in political science and English and with a long-term dream of working in Middle Eastern foreign relations for the U.S. State Department. ....

Kentucky Derby Festival 2021: Royal Court Coronation


The 2021 Kentucky Derby Festival Queen is Giavanna Combs.
The five women who made up the 2020 Royal court rolled over to represent the festival in 2021. On Friday, the tradition of spinning a wheel to select the royal court s queen took place during a virtual event sponsored by the Fillies, a volunteer group that works closely with KDF and sponsors the Fillies Derby Ball, the official Derby Festival program, the Children s Tea with the Princesses and they also manage the Derby Princess program.
Each woman on the 2021 Royal Court will receive a $2,000 scholarship ($1,000 from the Fillies and $1,000 from the Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation).   ....
