VanBuren is the lead instructor for the Career Tech Center s Applied Construction Technology program. Students in the program built Lampkin s home, which she moved into a year and a half ago with her husband.
Now another home, next door to Lampkin s and also built by CTC students, is about to hit the market.
MCBAIN â McBain Rural Agricultural School administrators and teaching staff proudly unveiled the district s new preschool to the public earlier this week.
Little Wheels Preschool, located on Roland Street next to the elementary school, is designed to nurture and empower each child, according to an informational pamphlet available at the Tuesday open house, during which community members were given the opportunity to check out the new facility and talk to district officials. We strive to promote the development of social skills, emotional growth, and physical coordination as well as cognitive preparation.
Howard Napp, interim superintendent for the district, said he believes Little Wheels Preschool will serve as a visionary model for other school districts in the area that are struggling to address a deficit in educational programming for kids between the ages of 3 and 5.
Scott Akom comes to the district from Mesick Consolidated Schools where he serves as the current superintendent.
âWe had about 15 applicants and the board brought it down to three. After they narrowed it down to two, they selected Scott,â said McBain Rural Agricultural School interim superintendent, Howard Napp.
âHe has extensive classroom teaching experience and also has had principal experience. Heâs been a superintendent and with all the checking we did, along with references, heâs just done an outstanding job at Mesick,â Napp said.
Akomâs initial contract with McBain Public Schools is for three years. After that period he will be evaluated by the board at which point they will decide whether to extend his contract to five years.
