Over 10 feared killed in Benue communities - Punch Newspapers

Punch Newspapers Sections Published 28 May 2021 Several people were feared killed as local bandits attacked some villages in the Katsina Ala Local Government Area of Benue State. Though sources alleged that suspected Fulani men were responsible for the killings of the villagers, The PUNCH could not immediately confirm this. One of the sources claimed that about 36 people were murdered early hours of Thursday in Shitile, Shikaan, Mbagena Kpav. Another source said over 10 people died. A military source, who spoke with The PUNCH on Friday on the latest attack, also said the killing was perpetrated by the local bandits. “It is true that some people were killed in some villages in Katsina Ala local government yesterday (on Thursday) but it (killing) was carried out by the local bandits in the area.”

42 killed, passengers abducted in Benue

Villagers said 36 out of the 42 victims were killed in Kastina-Ala while the remaining six were murdered in Gwer West following an attack carried out by gunmen in the areas between Thursday and Friday morning. A resident in Kastina-Ala told our correspondent by telephone that the killings of the 36 people in the early hours of Thursday took place in Shitile, Shikaan and Mbagena Kpav areas of the local government area. The resident, who declined to have his name on print, said he does not know whether the killings were perpetrated by the local bandits or armed herders.   Herders fingered But, the Chairman of Gwer West, Mrs Grace Igbabon, told newsmen in Makurdi on the telephone that six people were killed in her area by suspected armed herders.
